Equus-Avis: top view of the wing by Dogezon Equus-Avis: top view of the wing by Dogezon
Part of my series Equus-Avis which focuses on anatomical studies of the Pegasus: a mythical race of flying horses whom I am interested in thanks to MLP:FIM.

Aesthetics re-think: [fav.me/d7cfywx]

All the individually drawn below feathers look excellent and solidly compliment the more than competently drawn feathers above. The added plume to the right is a nice touch as well!

Haha, well I was concerned that I was drifting slightly into hyperbole territory, and we don't want to go overboard now, do we? ;)

I can tell, the effort shows. You keep pushing yourself with these and who knows what other areas of your artistic skill will show improvement as a result?

It's so nice to see all this detail going into showing the wings and such! ^w^ Considering the show obviously doesn't cover this much detail. It's so interesting :3 This one looks great, as do all the others!

Yes, I like this. As I have said it's good someone is taking it upon themselves to look at what makes them fly since in the cartoon it is really like a hand, no feathers or anything

Hmm. That just really bugged me you know? Like... how can a hand fly? It can't! So how do they fly? Well I'd better find out!

And that you are finding out! I mean in the episode where Pinkie becomes a detective to find out who ate the cakes she finds a blue feather, so they do have feathers but for animation purposes it's easier to draw them as they are rather than the individual feathers

Precisely!

It's easier to animate one solid block of a limb rather than a complicated wing with individual feathers and an underlying bone structure!

They look very good, and realistic too!
What references do you use for these, actual bird wings?
